Set Our Children Free
Most of my poems are from what can best be described as my "Blue Period", aka "The Dark Year of the Restless Soul".
Set Our Children Free
Come on people, wake up
What's happening with me and you
Rape pillage and plunder
That's all we seem to do
It used to be safe
For our old and our weak
To walk the streets at night
Our children watch the news at night
Can't sleep without a light
All the chemicals and poisons
We pour into ourselves
The Surgeon General yells a warning
"Life Is Harmful To Your Health"
How about our lame-duck soldiers
El-Salvador and Lebanon
Hey there, Mr. President
Remember Vietnam?
Politicians paint a portrait
Prosperity on the rise
People just don't see it
Too much pain in the paupers' eyes
Our hatred for one another
Turn to war and bigotry
We pollute our children's minds these days
It's time we set them free
When The Children Cry

I thought the same thing. It makes you wonder who or what is in charge of things. Thanks for taking time to comment!

A good message to people through this poem.
You mentioned it was penned in 1980's. And, nothing changed since then! Except that it has become worse now.
