Searching Friendship

Umesh is a freelance writer contributing his creative writings on varied subjects in various knowledge and educational sites in internet.

This acrostic poem is an effort to showcase the hard work people often do in searching a good friend and then only enjoy that throughout their lives. The poem is of course inspired from Brenda Arledge's word prompt 'Friendship'.

Friendship is a life long treasure but it is only true when we are able to search a good friend and then establish and maintain cordial relations with him or her. Friendship is a mutual relationship and cannot survive on one sided efforts. Equal support and involvement is required from both the sides. A friendship is fruitful only when it brings happiness and fun to all the participants. It is better to move alone than to be in bad and unfriendly company. So the searching a good friend is not an easy task but once found it is a gold mine.

For the quenching of my gregariousness,

Rising out from deep of my heart.

In the pursuit of eternal happiness,

Ecstasy present in my each and every part.

Not adhering to established rules,

Dodging myself in my own recline.

Slowly changing in the fruitful ways,

Hiding my external appearances behind.

In pursuit of that elusive friendliness,

Positioning myself in that happy bind.

Beautiful perspective on friendship.

BRENDA ARLEDGE from Washington Court House on April 14, 2021:

I like the beginning where you explain friendship can be a lifelong treasure but it cannot be one sided. It must be fruitful.

It shows us how one does not want to be alone and begins a journey to embrace that feeling of happiness.

Reminding us that sometimes we must change our outward look to gain a friendship that lasts.

It's not always an easy task, but the happiness we receive in return is worth the little changes we make along the way.

Inspirational words in this acrostic poem.

The quotes are terrific!

I will post a link in the article.

Significant piece, Bro. Yes, we need to be so careful with Friendship! Yet a good friend is priceless and invaluable.

I grew up with two in the Caribbean and we all travelled. Me to London, UK and they to New York. I have visited New York at least twice a year in the last 39 years (Covid apart), and saw them quite regularly. Alas! One passed and went to Heaven. The other rings me and I ring him and we share ideas. Salaam!

Nice poem and article, Umeshbhai. Great response to Brenda’s prompt.

True friendships are rare and precious and bilateral. Also, if we are not fortunate enough to have true friendships, at least we should not be so unfortunate as to get trapped in false ones.

A beautiful response to Brenda's prompt. I enjoyed the read. You defined friendship very well. True, it's a two-way effort. Friendship is tested in tough times and the friend who stays with you through thick and thin is your true friend -- a friend in need is a friend indeed

Blessings and Peace

I enjoyed your perspective on friendship. Friendship can be elusive or it can just happen instantly and last a lifetime. A lot of times it comes down to circumstance and chemistry.
