Scented Lilacs Dancing in the Breeze

I'm a writer, a poet, a dreamer. Born and raised in New York City. I now live in Daytona Beach, Florida. .

secret-garden-of-yesteryears

You came into my life,
when spring was in full bloom,
the world was like new,
trees changing into coats of green,
water gurgling through rivers and streams,
so much joy,
so many dreams -
scented lilacs dancing in the breeze.

Then I saw your dazzling smile,
as we sat beneath a blooming tree,
the scent was so intoxicating,
as first kisses we shared,
so many springs have come and gone,
but lilacs always make me smile,
reminding me that nearby you'll always be -
with scented lilacs dancing in the breeze.

Now far from where lilacs bloom,
memories of days gone by,
take me back to the places,
where purple and white lilacs in May bloom,
I can daydream for a while,
hear your voice whisper in my ear,
I'll always be near
and I smile through misty eyes,
as before me, I see -
scented lilacs dancing in the breeze.

This is still a wonderful read. A bit sad, but a lifetime connection.

Gypsy,

This one is so touching. I love it.

The smell of lilacs is so refreshing...they don't last long enough but they are truly intoxicating.

Wonderful choice to use with this poem.

Thanks for the read.

I love lilacs and I loved this poem. Now I have to get Bev to love lilacs as much as I do so I can go buy a few of them for our front yard. :)

Rasma, the memories that scented lilacs dancing in the breeze elicit for you is beautiful. What an amazing trigger!

Do you have lilacs in your garden?

I love Lilacs and they are a good choice when writing poetry. This poem reflects a relationship that starts beautifully, but ends with just memories.
