Because the Leader Told Us To

BECAUSE THE LEADER TOLD US TO

Because the leader told us to, We taught our men to try. Because the leader told us to, We taught them how to cry. Because the leader told us to, We taught them the reasons why. Because the leader told us to, We taught them how to die. Because the leader told us to, We follow two by two. Because the leader told us to, We all must fill the shoes. Because the leader told us to, We now must go to war. Because the leader told us to, We have to settle a score. Because the leader told us to, We all shall now fall down. Because the leader told us to, Now we're the "laughing clowns ." Because the leader told us to, Because the leader told us to.

Wonderful prose.

It's sad that we must follow orders if we don't even agree.

We should have a choice, but I know many soldiers do not.

An excellent poem that sums up the leader syndrome but is so topical.

John Hansen from Gondwana Land on September 21, 2021:

An excellent poem. It is a shame when people are expected to blindly follow their leaders. Many of those leaders can not be trusted.

Misbah Sheikh from The World of Poets on September 20, 2021:

This was interesting. I'm not saying this because the leader told me to, but I genuinely liked the thought behind your poem. :) What a blessing it would be if we just accept God to be our only leader. :) Welcome to HP!

Blessings to you!
