Sankhajit Bhattacharjee Poem 71
METASTASIS
The bonfire of materialism has burnt into ashes
the spirituality of human heart.
Its poisonous blood is flowing through our veins,
into our tissues spreading its dirt.
As a consequence, from the Himalayas to Kanyakumari
corruption has overcast the sky like a grey cloud,
percolated with rainwater into the ground,
brought dusty storm with thunder loud.
Recommended
Even a ray of light never dares to penetrate
the sky to touch this land.
The greenery of human life has turned into
the yellowness of desert sand.
Fiercer than cancer are
the nail and tooth of this demon.
The lifesaving drug to cure
is still unknown.
