Sankhajit Bhattacharjee Poem 5

Scientific Research Fellow in University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee

I may be a dying rat!

I am running in an infinite race

without stopping a bit

and without paying heeds even to life and values.

If I pause the world and time will kick me out.

But at times I do pause because-

my eyes want to observe the colors of a rainbow,

my nose wants to smell the fragrance of flowers,

my ears want to listen to the songs of birds,

my tongue wants to taste the nectar of life,

my skin wants to touch the glamour of nature

and my mind and heart want to lit up the lamp of life and values.

They have lost their way in the midst of

huge syllabus, semester exams, bounden and bonded jobs and careerism.

I never care this world.

A dying rat I never wish to be.

I want to be a true being.

BRENDA ARLEDGE from Washington Court House on April 29, 2020:

I love the way you describe why you want to pause.

Your poem speaks to the way this world is a rat race...always take time for yourself.

Great write!
