Sankhajit Bhattacharjee Poem 247

Scientific Research Fellow in University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee

Burka

'You have not obeyed my order. In front of

my friend you came out without covering your face'.

The acid attack victim is struggling

for life in the hospital.

If she was not beautiful, she has to stand on fire!

A woman can observe a man from head to toe

but the reverse is not accepted, why?

Burka is not an issue here.

The outlook remains same- wild-

as it was at the time of first dawn-

a clogged drain with muddy water and non-sense garbage.

I agree with Misbah. Emotionally and physically horrendous, some extreme religious beliefs are sometimes illogical.

Misbah Sheikh from The World of Poets on July 12, 2021:

It's a harsh reality of some cruel extremists, but it's true. The veil you are referring to here is not the veil that covers a female's face, head, or body, but the veil that covers the brains of some extremists. There have been numerous reports of acid victims becoming victims as a result of wearing a burqa, veil, or chaddar. Islam never asks anyone to force a woman to wear a burqa, veil, chaddar, etc. If she doesn't want to wear it. So it's all about the veil that covers extremists' brains. I believe that the light should be shed on both sides.

Oh my...this is an awful demise.

A tragedy to do this to anyone.
