Sankhajit Bhattacharjee Poem 237

Scientific Research Fellow in University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee

An Old Lady

An old lady remains alone-

none of her family members can tolerate her.

Her mouth is like a crater of volcano-

at times lava erupts, smoke darkens the surroundings,

the heat causes others' skins to get burned,

even the ice of Antarctica can hardly soothe them.

Words are very dangerous-

much more dangerous than missiles and bombs.

The latter kills a human completely

but a word can suffocate one slowly.

Similarly good words are like the nectar of heaven.

Her habit is to cause utter suffocation

and that is why she is remaining alone.

Without any company she is feeling suffocated too.

So true, that is. In urdu we say "lafz apko arsh pe bhi pohanchate hain and farsh pe bhi girate hain".

I don't know if, you understand Urdu or not. So here's the translation for you to understand that phrase

"Good words can elevate you to thrones, while poor words can knock you to the ground."

Words truly have the ability to heal and break people at the same time.

Thank you for sharing this piece.

Blessings to you
