Sankhajit Bhattacharjee Poem 194

Scientific Research Fellow in University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee

RAINBOW TREE

I saw a tree beside the pavement-

it was dressed with wools of various colors

and countless ribbons were tied to its branches.

It’s not to symbolize it for- ‘Tree is Life’,

it’s an emblem of

universal brotherhood and sisterhood,

attraction to the both

and Klinefelters.

A new form of liberty has invaded

the personal life of ultra-modernists

and it will become law.

I’m liberal and dynamic-

I don’t have any problem with others’ personal life

but I wish to remain ever satisfied with one girl.

My love will be like the rainbow of vast sky-

it will never be tied to the branches of tree

in form of wool or ribbon !

The ideal of ancient Indian womanhood. Of Sita and Kunti; of Damayanti and Savitri and their husbands. So eloquent! So noble! So immortal!
