Reviving the Spirit of Youthfulness: A Poem

Val enjoys writing rhymed poetry with a valuable message in it.

If we could only keep in our hearts a younger image of ourselves.

If we could only keep in our hearts a younger image of ourselves.

The person we believe ourselves to be will always act in a manner consistent with our self image.

-- Brian Tracy

Those were the days of cigarettes and wine

with nights of easy women and dirty jokes

playing our guitars and just feeling fine

serious life looking like one big hoax.

Now all those goodies of youth if taken aside

somehow we managed to produce that joy

out of thin air by our inner spirited guide

one that made every task look like toy.

How did we give it up to collect rust

burying youthful enthusiasm and zeal

switching from horniness to secret lust

turning all our life into one habitual ordeal.

No, it's not our hormones cowardly betraying

but our mind-styles that are making them less

so that instead of singing, dancing and playing

we visit our doctors, complaining about a stress.

We excel at politics and thrive on bitching

feasting but worried about naked survival

nervously scratching without even itching

oblivious to joy of youth waiting for revival,

It wouldn't take more than imagination

memories of joyfulness would help too

devoting some time toward that creation

while anticipating that reality all brand new.

Maybe you've had a dream of such a sort

then woke up but pulled cover over head

to get back to that dream being too short

with each fiber unwilling to leave the bed.

How nice would it be to have it all come true

but yes -- we could do it with a spirited will

reviving youthfulness like out of the blue

with every crazy dream bound to fulfill.
