Reunited: A Poem
Years ago while drifting at night
in what looked like a deserted town
I spotted something hidden from sight
shaking and sobbing and just laying down.
It was a boy all scared and so stressed
blinking nervously with those tearful eyes
barefoot, all messy and so poorly dressed
in something that looked on him so oversized.
I looked away not knowing what to do
kept walking and trying to forget that face
but then as I couldn't, and still without a clue
I slowly went back to that sad, disturbing place.
Kneeling down I smiled wiping a big tear
and picked up that boy with a gentle care
calming down his body trembling with fear
while trying to avoid that questioning stare.
Then I kept walking, now somewhat stronger
as if his peacefulness had turned into mine
neither looking uncomfortable any longer
life starting to feel nothing short of fine.
And then as if by magic we blended into one
and nothing was going to separate us now
with a sweet fatigue like after a long run
and breeze whispering a solemn vow.
