A Letter Of Heartbreak

Last night, I thought we were a perfect match,

yet the sunset of another day

echoes the truth.

Tomorrow will arrive

with more lies spoken from your tongue,

the ones I will pretend to understand

as I fade off into the distance.

There's Nothing I Can Do

Sweetie,

I long to hear your voice whisper

those sweet nothings into my ear

that make my heart feel so alive,

but I found out I’m not the only one.

So, I’ll be packing my bags

first thing in the morning,

no worries though, my heart is breaking too

but that’s the way the old ball bounces,

leaving my heart to feel empty without you.

There’s nothing I can do

to change your recent attitude,

so, I bid you farewell

hoping it was well worth it.

Once upon a time I was falling in love but now I'm only falling apart.

There's nothing I can do, a total eclipse of the heart.

Perfect Sunset

You are the perfect sunset

to my sunrise,

you make me feel like I’m a flower in heaven

embracing love in the beautiful garden of Eden.

Feeling your clutch upon my body

has been the most wonderful moment of my life,

erasing any pain like a magical illusion.

I wish to carry it with me

throughout each and every second of the day

from now until eternity.

To send a letter is a good way to go somewhere without moving anything but your heart.

A beautiful collection of poems,Brenda. My favorite was Emotions Live Inside A Letter. How true your words are and how significant too! You truly speak from your heart with passion and your words are full of emotional depth. What an amazing quote that is by Goethe that letters are one of the most important memorials that a person can leave behind. My sister who died about four years ago, wrote me a letter and I count it among my most cherished gifts. Letters often show love, wisdom, and truth that has been acquired by this person in his or her life. They are the purest reflections as they often mirror the person’s soul. And they leave us with a fragment of their souls. How fortunate we are to receive such a treasure. A splendid write.

Excellent response to the word prompt, letters. I loved reading your beautiful collection of poems, illustrations and quotes.

I still love writing letters, on paper, with pen. It’s a feeling of pure joy, to receive or write one.

Thank you for sharing this wonderful article.

Bill Holland from Olympia, WA on August 07, 2021:

I don't remember the last time I "wrote" a letter. I'm not sure I could any longer. I have the old man's shake of the hand, and computers allow me to still type out my thoughts...but a cursive letter? No one would be able to read it. lol Lovely mixture here, my friend. Well done! Happy Saturday to you!

John Hansen from Gondwana Land on August 07, 2021:

You did a great job here, Brenda, The whole article is the perfect package, poetry, songs and quotes. Very enjoyable.

Good God! So if one can write love poems with letters of the alphabet, the magic is done.

Rosina S Khan on August 07, 2021:

These are a beautiful collection of poems, Brenda. Loved the quotes as well and the cute illustrations along with them. There is always power in writing letters, so I believe.
