Poem: Remembering a Lost One

I am a writer. My passion is poetry. I feel words connect people together and help us to understand the feelings we share.

Poem Summary

Remembering a lost one is a poem I wrote many years ago. I often think about my step-son from a previous marriage. He was at a very young age when I last saw him. I remember the times we shared hoping he knows I do care.

"Count on Me" by Bruno Mars

Remembering A Lost One

Remembering the walks we took
the games we used to play
forever will be in my heart
as I yearn for yesterday.

Remembering the parties
the fun we used to have
playing outside in the sun
with your little friends.

Remembering the joy
the sparkle in your eyes
each time someone gave you
a nice new surprise.

Remembering those moments
wishing to be there
wondering if you understand
that I really care.

BRENDA ARLEDGE (author) from Washington Court House on August 15, 2019:

Thank you, Lora.

It is sad, it has been so many years back.

I was only 18 back then...nearing 60 in a few.

Thanks for your heartfelt words.

This is a very touching and lovely poem, Brenda. It is bittersweet, recounting the beautiful memories you had with your step-son. And in the present, it sounds like you are reflecting back at these precious times, wondering if he knew how much you cared about him then and if he remembers these times now. It is sad that many relationships come to an end even with those that we truly cared for. I really love your poem. Thanks for sharing your profound feelings.
