Practicality Does It: A Poem

Val enjoys writing his own style of what resembles poetry, just hoping to catch someone's heart on the same page.

I am very fond of pragmatic souls

those not beating around the bush

having always clear, practical goals

and free of straining, with a little push.

I can't understand those who know a lot

but talk is about all they can do so well

just mentioning abilities they haven't got

as if promoting a product they don't sell.

An obese nutritionist and a nervous shrink

I've seen them socially -- to my big surprise

unable to apply what they believe and think

a sad appearance for my ever curious eyes.

Could it actually be true

what cynical folks often say

that "those who teach can't do"

like miracle workers who only pray.

An impotent sexologist is coming to mind

two more years could make him a plumber

I know, I know -- words like that are not kind

but don't pick violin if you are cut for drummer.

People should face their many limitations

and practicality always puts them on a test

like, so many should forget literary creations

because it's simply not what they can do best.
