Poetry is a Song

It's a song in your heart that won't go away

It's that downcast feeling you get on a rainy day

It's as high as the hills and wide as the sea

Everything's poetry

It's the 'to do' list that never ends

It's the letter you forgot to send to a friend

It's a bird with no wing

It's a dog without a bone

It's a place that you stay

when you haven't got a home

Poetry is a song

You sing along.

Aw thanks. Been trying to write with this tablet, it's not going well, but at least I can log in. Take care lady.

Rinita Sen on May 19, 2020:

That's too bad. Hope things open up soon and you can repair it without delay. I'm doing alright here, in the midst of a lockdown too. Hope you write again soon.

Verlie Burroughs (author) from Canada on May 19, 2020:

Hi Rinita! Thanks for checking in. I'm lost out in the ozone since the virus lockdown and my computer crashed. Good to see you Poet. Hope you are doing okay in this crisis?

Rinita Sen on May 19, 2020:

I haven't seen you in a while. So just wanted to check in. Hope you are well. And of course, poetry is everything. I don't know how I missed this gem.

Aw thanks Dora, It's good to get your feedback.

Dora Weithers from The Caribbean on February 28, 2020:

Beautiful poetry about poetry. It's an ongoing pleasant experience, similar to singing a continual song. I love the message.

Mar you are too kind. I am not a composer of music sadly, I didn't make it past Book Two of Leila Fletcher Piano. And I can't sing except Bob Dylan off key. So I just write. I'm so glad you like. Happy Wednesday night/Thursday!

Maria Jordan from Jeffersonville PA on February 26, 2020:

I would love to see your poetry set to music, dear Verlie - what a gift you have.

Happy Wednesday! Love, Maria

manatita44 from london on February 26, 2020:

Lovely! Like a sweet song all right. A cutie of a humming-bird! Exquisite!

I'm so happy to see all you lovely generous poetry people:

Mike, thanks again. I actually had to look up "rhapsodic" and then I had to listen to 'Bohemian Rhapsody' by Queen (what an exciting comment.)

Eric, thanks, I'm happy to hear that. Write on!

Hey John, Thanks, I almost didn't recognize you that's a great profile pic. You know April poetry month is coming up right? It's a challenge, to write a poem a day for 30 days. I bet people will be tired of poetry and tired of writing poetry after that. But I can't wait!

Lorna, thank you for reading. I really appreciate your positive comment.

Lorna Lamon on February 25, 2020:

A beautiful poem full of musical notes. Just lovely Verlie.

John Hansen from Queensland Australia on February 25, 2020:

Yes poetry is a song, Verlie. Love your poem, and yes I do think poetry seems to be starting to regain some popularity at last. You are certainly doing your bit to promote that. Cheers.

Eric Dierker from Spring Valley, CA. U.S.A. on February 25, 2020:

Thank you. I think along these lines and my son writes along them.

mckbirdbks from Emerald Wells, Just off the crossroads,Texas on February 25, 2020:

Hello Verlie - I can always count on you to write something rhapsodic. Always a pleasure.

Verlie Burroughs (author) from Canada on February 25, 2020:

Thank you so much Bill. There seems to be a resurgence of interest in poetry. I was happy to see it came up in your mailbag this week.

Bill Holland from Olympia, WA on February 25, 2020:

I don't know about all poetry, but your poetry is definitely a song. Verlie, you have awakened within me an interest and appreciation in poetry, and for that I thank you!

Wishing, for you, a brilliant Tuesday!
