Poetry : A Prayer For Life

I have been writing poems and short stories for years, some of which I have published independantly. I also blog. Writing is a loved hobby.

Far away there in the sunshine are my highest aspirations. I may not reach them, but I can look up and see their beauty, believe in them, and try to follow where they lead."

— Louisa May Alcott

The Poem

Dear one, life is precious, this you know,
You only live once, as the saying goes.
A breathe of life; and a breathe alas,
the last of its kind, a life has passed.

So take this moment to still and ponder,
Is there a time when you look in wonder,
At life at its best and life at its worst, when your heart stutters fit to burst.

The moments you missed, the moments which last,
The times you insist are the best of the past;
The ones you wish would stay forever,
The people you wish would leave you never.

But you esteem life is like a bed of roses,
You know the thorns which hurt you the most.
You smell the perfume, you see the green,
You know your loss, you have your win.

Thus I pray your life is one of meaning,
Full, defined, lived to the most.
I pray you find the ones in hiding,
You regain them which you have lost.

I pray your path is clear before you,
Though you may find it may be rough;
That your sight be keen, your strength true,
You climb your mounts with a wink and a laugh.

Never lose sight of ones which matter,
Your dreams to have, aspirations to meet;
Your feet may hurt, your cloths in tatter,
Yet dignity and glory, the robes which fit.

A prayer for life, a prayer for breath,
A prayer beyond the shadow of death;
To see you whole, to fullfill your destiny,
To find your completion in eternity.

Author's Note

This is possibly one of my favorite poems to write. This is also my latest one which I wrote several days ago when I was feeling particularly inspired.

Life is, living. You have the good and the bad. You embrace the first and learn from the other. You aspire, inspire and perspire in attempting to reach a certain desired destination in your life; a worthy goal.

Contemplate and meditate, act and mediate. May you find fullfilment and contentment in life. May you find God is good.

Thank you Brenda.

I love that line too, I was rather inspired by a particular thorn so familiar to me.

Blessings!

Life is for living. " You know the thorns that hurt you most" is the line I liked best.

Keep writing.
