The sun grinning in its glory
as Tabitha work the field
Born a slave she knows
Only service and duty
And she wears each cap well
Jamestown Virginia her new home
The arrow swings east
As she gathers in the vineyard
A day off she can only hope for.
His shirt wore like a souvenir
His true nature lies beneath his
A young fellow from Pittsburgh
Who face appeared to look like
A melancholy individualist
But his shirt spoke otherwise
He carries his tears with him
A heap of chalk marks the ground
As he mourns his first love
His handsome heart eats aways
If only he could muster
The courage to move on
It would be deep enough
To cure his troubled conscience
The air brims of heat
In the evening the stars
Line up in perfect order
Opening up the sky
Above the earth
Orchards in full bloom
Oh how its beauty migrate
Beyond the garden planted
By locals of Iowa
Summer, how could one not love
the way it shows
