Poems of Faith From the Beach 11
Timothy is a Christian who enjoys creating visual art and writing. He has a B.S. in psychology.
Faith Is a Verb
Faith is not meant to be stagnant or put in a box and kept hidden. Faith needs to be exercised in order to grow. Which means faith in God is a verb, an action word. We must use our faith in order to grow in our faith. These poems are all written about a certain aspect of living a faithful life. My hope and prayer is it these poems made touch your heart just a little or brighten up your day just a little.
Fruits of the Spirit
Love is the glue which holds a life together
Joy will make a life feel light as a feather
Peace is what a settled life heartily knows
Patience is what a centered life shows
Kindness is what a giving heart passes on
Goodness, the rock a changed life is built upon
Faithfulness is a sure heart which believes
Gentleness, softness in what the heart conceives
Self - Control is a stillness in all life’s situations
Author’s Note
A poem which was inspired of course buy a recent reading of the Fruits of the Spirit as found in Galatians 5:22-23.
A God Moment
God moments
Those things in life
Which happen in a blink
God moments
Those things in life
Which cause you to think
God is still here
He is still in control
He still answers prayers
Watches over our soul
Author’s Note
A poem which came from my wife and I looking at each other one day when something happened in our lives. We both said at the same time. “Wow a God moment.” John 5:17, “But Jesus replied, ‘My Father is always working, and so am I.’” (NLT)
In Times Like These
It’s times like these
I need to speak the words of God
It’s times like these
I need to think the thoughts of God
It’s time like these
I need to feel the love of God
It’s times like these
I need to know He can lead me through
Times like these
I’ll keep his love locked in my heart
To help me deal with a world
That seeks to tear me apart
In times like these I can face the future
And not be afraid
His love will hold fast
As long as you remain faithful
It’s times like these
I need to speak the words of God
It’s times like these
I need to think the thoughts of God
It’s time like these
I need to feel the love of god
It’s times like these
I need to know He can lead me through
Times like these
Authors note:
This is a poem that I wrote a few years ago when I was having some troubled times in my life. I recently looked at this poem and felt it was relevant to what we’re going through now.
Jesus Still Came
Jesus knew the darkness
Of our hearts
He knew what things were hidden
Deep within our souls
Yet Jesus still came
He still came for you,
He still came for me
He still came to set us free
He didn’t turn aside
He didn’t look the other way
He didn’t say there’s no way
Jesus still came
Author’s Note
A poem about how Jesus came because He loved us all. John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”
Pray
Clasped my shaking hands together
And I began to pray
At first the words would not come
I didn’t know what to say
After all God knew every truth and
He knew every lie
I had accumulated over the
Years of my life
How could God accept me for the
Person I am
But I knew in my heart god could
Change me, as only he can
So the words poured forth from
The deepest well of my soul
Words that cleansed my spirit,
With God’s grace made me whole
I felt all my burdens lifted
There was warmth deep within
God had done something for me
I couldn’t, he took away my sin
I wanted to laugh
I wanted to cry
I wanted to sing
The Lord had opened my eyes
I had finally found the answer
I always had the question for
That in surrendering
The victory is won, it is sure
Author’s Note
A poem about what it feels like when you turn your life over to God. There is a sense of relief and freedom from all the burdens which you once had in your life.
Plain Brown Wrapper
Don’t want to be no show off
Or march in my own parade
To me that would be wrong
It would be a big charade
I don’t wantta’ take any credit
For which god deserves
I’m happy behind the scenes
doin’ what i can to serve
God is the artist on His
Canvas He paints
Whom am I to sign his artwork
No way I can’t
Wanna live my life in
A plain brown wrapper
Let others see you
Not me
A plain brown wrapper
To cover over my deeds
So god shines through
Each day they see
Don’t give me the glory
Don’t want any of the fame
Just wanna pick up the torch
And carry god’s flame
Wanna live my life in
A plain brown wrapper
Other seeing you
Not me
A plain brown wrapper
To cover over my deeds
So god shines through
Each day they see
Author’s Note
A poem which shows the need to give God the glory for all He does for us. Matthew 5:16, “In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” ESV
Jesus
Jesus
Jesus
Jesus
I come to you with simple words
To offer up my heartfelt thankfulness
And to praise you for all you’ve done
To take my life from eternal darkness
To one of true love livin with the Son
Where I can spend my days in peace
Walking on street paved with gold
As I’m singing songs of joy and praise
In a place where I’ll never grow old
Jesus
Jesus
Jesus
Author’s Note
Just a small poem dedicated to thanking Jesus for all He has done for us.
Adjust Your Vision
See the Lord
High and lifted up
Seated on his throne
Don’t push past number one
Living life horizontally
See things as they are
Trying to do good works
Trying to get far
Wait, stop
Adjust your vision
Dare to lift your eyes
See the Lord on high
Seated on His throne
Don’t push past number one
See the world through
The lenses of his love
Live life vertically
Focused on heaven above
That way your vision
Will remain clear
No longer blurred
by things down here
Wait, stop
Adjust your vision
Dare to lift your eyes
See the Lord on high
Seated on His throne
Don’t push past number one
Author’s Note
A poem dedicated to the idea of when you come to Jesus you start seeing the world in a different way.
