Poems: Hunger

I am a writer. My passion is poetry. I feel words connect people together and help us to understand the feelings we share.

Poems Summaries

"Poems: Hunger" is my response to "Word Prompts Help Creativity ~ Week 56 (Hunger)."

3 pieces describing different ways of experiencing hunger.

The inner soul; the countless pleas for help, and how loneliness affects one's appetite.

"Left Behind ( a heartfelt poem about losing a loved one) by Westley Nash"

Hunger of the Soul

There’s a hunger in her soul
that can never be whole,
since heaven’s gate closed
leaving her behind.

Thankfully she carries
a pocketful of memories
that are hers to rewind and play,
no matter what time of day.

That’s the good thing about life,
moments don’t happen twice
so, no one can take away
the joy she holds in her heart
like a special holiday.

Painful Pleas of the Hungry

It breaks her heart to see
a little girl begging her mommy
for one more piece of dessert,
as the organizers impose a rule
and absolutely refuse.

What’s she to do when her child is hungry,
let alone at a free pantry
where others are supposed to understand.

She brings her family there for a meal,
one she cannot provide without this deal,
forcing her to feel inadequate
for not having food in her cabinet.

Then they take away
that one moment of glory,
making her go home
with her child still hungry.

Loneliness & Hunger

Her stomach feels hungry
yet nothing catches her fancy,
so, she grabs a frosty
thinking she’s a bit thirsty,
hoping it satisfies both perfectly.

The ice cream is filling,
her tummy stops growling,
it melts just a bit
giving her an occasional sip.

It’s tough to eat alone
especially when you cook for one,
sometimes she goes to bed
with nothing instead,
but today was a real treat
she had her favorite dessert to eat.
