Poem: Why Does Nothing Seem Real?

I am a writer. My passion is poetry. I feel words connect people together and help us to understand the feelings we share.

Poetry Summary

It took long enough, but my muse finally got inspired with this word, "Nothing" from "Word Prompts Help Creativity ~ Week 55 (Nothing)."

This is a collection of four poems in response to this challenge.

If we really had a day to do nothing, could we handle it?

Does nothing really even exist?

If so, what exactly is it?

Sometimes silence is nothing. A universal language where nothing is automatically understood.

Nothing Doesn't Exist

Is there really a time in my life
that I do nothing?
I think not.

For even when I say I’m doing nothing
I’m doing something.

Like when I’m a couch-potato
my mind is always busy
watching a movie on television
or tapping my fingers on my mobile phone.

There’s never a moment
I let time just simply disappear
without interfering,
so, nothing
doesn’t seem to exist in my world.

Nothing ~ Acrostic Poem

Not doing anything
Omitting every thought
Turning our mind off
Hiding from our shadow
Ideas drawing a blank
Not moving forward
Going nowhere in life.

Wishing for a Nothing Day

I often wish for a day
to do absolutely nothing,
but could I handle it
if it actually happened?

If my fast-paced world
suddenly stopped
could I handle being a slacker?

Could I goof off
and be bone lazy
without a single care in the world?

I honestly doubt that nothingness
could fill my heart with joy
making me content
to sit for hours
with nothing on my mind.

The Silence of Nothing

In total silence,
his eyes speak
in a way, only I can understand.

Expressing love
without spoken words,
touching me with his silence.

Holding me close,
listening to our hearts speak
a language of its own.

Nothing,
to stand in our way
as the two of us grow closer.

There is only one way to avoid criticism:

do nothing,

say nothing,

and be nothing.
