Poem: Where's Mr. Sandman?

I am a writer. My passion is poetry. I feel words connect people together and help us to understand the feelings we share.

Poem Summary

"Where's Mr. Sandman? " is a poem about tossing and turning beneath the covers. Our frustration grows as we watch the hands on the clock and we are still awake. Tears from being tired build in the corner of our eyes. We hope the sandman arrives soon to take us to dreamland.

Where's Mr. Sandman?

Frustration grows,

tossing and turning

beneath the covers,

as the hands on the clock keep moving.

Tired eyes still awake,

head bobbing from one pillow to the other,

thinking of the hour

the alarm will sound.

Yawning

with tears silently rolling

in the crevices of her eyes,

tormented by the night owl

lurking in her bones.

Praying Mr. Sandman brings his magic soon,

dozing her off to dreamland,

letting her wake in the morning

with a spring in her step.

Hi, Brenda. Your poem reminded me of my sleepless nights during my pregnancy phase. In your poem, you have nicely weaved the words that depicts the picture of the lady unable to sleep. Good job!

Blessings and smile.

VIDYA D SAGAR on June 03, 2021:

A totally relatable emotion echoes in the poem Brenda. When sleep eludes till the wee hours, tears do roll out of our eyes. We have gone through this some time or the other. The legend made me smile. Guess we could wake that person up if we knew who it was, and reclaim our sleep back, ha ha. Have a great day.

Rosina S Khan on June 03, 2021:

So sorry that the lady in poem has a hard time falling asleep at night. I guess we all have been through this experience at some point or the other. I usually take a sleeping pill nowadays and it works fine for me and don't have trouble falling asleep at night.

You have expressed the feelings of the lady vividly so that I can really picture it. A splendid poem that I can relate. Thank you for sharing, Brenda.

Misbah Sheikh from The World of Rebels. on June 03, 2021:

Brenda, This is a lovely and beautiful poem. You did a fantastic job scribbling it. It's something I can relate to. I believe someone has been dreaming about me for the past several days... Ha-ha. Do those legends have the ability to identify the person who is dreaming of you and keep you awake at night? I'm eager to track down that person. Lol!

Blessings and Love
