Poem: "When Illness Strikes"

I am a writer. My passion is poetry. I feel words connect people together and help us to understand the feelings we share.

Poem Summary

When Illness Strikes is a short poem about what happens when an illness takes over.

We feel helpless and familiar moments are non-existent.

We stand in silence hoping it is a dream as we take one step at a time.

"When Illness Strikes"

Like a thief in the night,

an illness strikes

leaving behind

a feeling of helplessness.

Familiar moments

hide deep,

as we stand motionless

hoping it is only a dream.

In the quiet silence,

we embrace one another

taking one step at a time.

Peggy,

Thank you.

No one really knows what tomorrow might bring...so we should enjoy each moment.

Thank you so much for your kindness.

Taking one step at a time is what everyone has to do when illness strikes, as in the case of you and your boyfriend. We do not know what our tomorrows may bring. Stay strong!

Liz,

Thank you,

Yes, we can only move one step at a time.

Mostly baby steps.

Have a great day.

Brenda, that's all you can do: take one step at a time. You have each other, so neither of you have to go through the tough times alone.

Hang in there, friend.
