Poem: Watching Him Grow

I am a writer. My passion is poetry. I feel words connect people together and help us to understand the feelings we share.

Poem Summary

Watching him grow is about remembering the early years when one's child grows. You remember his first words, watching him try new things, climbing on anything he could. You are happy to still be watching as he reaches for his own pathway in life. Hoping his moments are filled with happiness.

I remember the early years
watching you learn to talk,
hearing your first words,
eagerly trying new things,
climbing on anything you could.

Today you are still climbing
reaching for new goals,
finding the pathway
for your own life.

I am happy to be sharing
this part of your journey,
I hope your days bring you as much joy
as you give me.

I wish I could freeze time or go back in time and watch my kids grow up all over again because it is just going by too fast.

Lorna,

So glad to hear this one brought up memories for you.

Your mom was very smart. Childhood goes by so quickly. So sad today that many children do not get to take the time to enjoy it.

Thanks for your heartfelt words and sharing your moments.

Lorna Lamon on November 15, 2019:

I remember my mum telling me to enjoy these wonderful early years because they pass so quickly. Your poem reminds me of my own children and all the joy of watching them experience life. Your poem expresses this time beautifully - thank you for the lovely experience.

BRENDA ARLEDGE (author) from Washington Court House on November 14, 2019:

Thank you, Patricia.

It is so hard watching them grow up, but it is so rewarding.

As you say, the love grows so big you can hardly contain it.

Thank you for reading.

Patricia Scott from North Central Florida on November 14, 2019:

Yes I can identify with this for sure. The days and weeks and months just disappear so quickly. And now my grandchildren are no longer the babes I adored so long ago. And if it is possible my love has grown SO big as each year passes that it cannot be contained. Thanks for sharing your sweet poem with us. Angels once again are headed your way ps
