Poem: Walking with God

I am a writer. My passion is poetry. I feel words connect people together and help us to understand the feelings we share.

Summary of Poem

Walking with God is about how sometimes she must miss going to church to worship but she knows she is fulfilling his promise. She talks with him and listens to his replies each day. She knows he walks with her during each moment of the day.

"Walking with God"

There are times when her feet
may not lead her inside
the building to worship God,
but she knows she is fulfilling
his promise today,
even if her steps miss the temple to pray.

Each morning when she awakes
she talks with him,
lying in bed
quietly listening for his reply.

Feeling joy in her heart,
knowing he stands beside her,
walking together
during this twenty four hour journey.

Milly,

Such a great reply...Thank you.

I am so glad to hear you feel like you are fulfilling God's promise...it's not easy today.

Have a great day.

This is a great poem. I like it. I believe many people can now identify with the poem because, not only is the character's feet not leading them to a building to pray sometimes but also us readers, are not able to go to church in many countries now because of COVID 19.

I feel the poem is encouraging me because I know I'm still fulfilling God's promise for today, even if my feet don't lead me to church.

Beautiful poem. I do believe that God is always taking care of us, is always present everywhere, and not necessarily in the religious places.

Thank you so much for sharing.

Ruby,

He is always with us.

There are times I don't like the answers I get, but he is still there loving me.

I am delighted to know you spend time with him every day.

Take care and enjoy life.

Liz,

Having a relationship with God is more than just attending Church on Sundays.

Our church is now open but I have still not attended. God knows what is inside my heart.

I think we all need to talk with him more...especially nowadays.

Have a great day!

Lorna,

Yes, nature seems to be one of those special places where one can feel God.

It is so peaceful one can literally hear him in everything.

Thanks for reading.

Hace a great day!

Rhodora,

I am delighted to hear you pray to God and carry him with you.

This virus has shown us all a different way of life.

I do believe there are moments where we need to be somewhere else to fulfill God's promise in our lives.

Enjoy your day!

John,

I believe that a church is just merely a building.

The real church is the people.

I do believe God knows what is inside one's heart.

Take care and have a great day.

Ruby Jean Richert from Southern Illinois on June 16, 2020:

This is beautiful and I talk to God daily. We can feel secure that God will be with us through good times and bad.

Liz Westwood from UK on June 16, 2020:

Our local church will reopen soon for private prayer. But we can talk to God wherever we are. Your poem sums up the reality of a living relationship with God well.

Lorna Lamon on June 16, 2020:

A beautiful and inspirational poem Brenda. I always feel closer to God when I am surrounded by the beauty of nature. God is always with us and if we do not feel his presence perhaps it is because we have moved away.

Rhodora from Dubai UAE on June 16, 2020:

This poem like its me...

Rosina S Khan on June 15, 2020:

Thank you, Brenda, for such a beautiful poem. This is also different from the others. I am happy the lady in the poem gets so much joy walking with God. Truly appreciated.

John Hansen from Queensland Australia on June 15, 2020:

A lovely poem of faith, Brenda. I have heard it said numerous time that “church is not a building” and I agree, we can pray and worship anywhere. It is what is in our heart.
