Poem: Trusting in a Higher Calling

I am a writer. My passion is poetry. I feel words connect people together and help us to understand the feelings we share.

Summary of Poem

Trusting in a higher calling is about listening to a doctors words when he says you have an illness. Deciding to shut out negative thoughts. Embracing only positive ones for no one can determine the beginning or end. Covering the soul in faith accepting you are no different than you were yesterday.

"Trusting in a Higher Calling"

Heart racing,
beads of sweat forming on her brow,
feelings of anxiety
consuming her thoughts,
listening to each word the doctor speaks,
a million scenarios playing in her mind.

Seeing disparaging eyes,
hearing “I’m sorry”
like she has a death sentence
lingering over her head,
she slams the door shut to negativity
embracing only positive thoughts.

Living each day of her life
trusting in a higher calling,
for seasons have a pathway
which no man can determine
the beginning, nor the end.

Faith covering her soul
like the quietness in the early morning,
erasing her worries
giving her strength to face each day
understanding she is no different
than she was yesterday.

Diana,

At the moment I am being put to this test.

My boyfriend's illness has taken us all by surprise.

The doctor's, hospitals, tests and waiting can all be a bit overwhelming.

I am finally able to take a few moments to breathe and thank God for everything he is doing to guide me.

He has the ultimate decision...not the doctors.

Thank you for reading and take care.

I look forward to reading your work soon.

Beautiful poem that can help others not to fear the words of the medical fraternity. They have their opinions and

knowledge, but we have God to have the final say, not man. Faith is stronger than fear. Thanks for sharing your poem.

Such a beautiful poem, Brenda, that reminds us that having faith and courage can help us conquer our worst fears. You are so right when you say that we must trust in a higher calling and that no one can predict the outcome of anything that may happen. But we can control our thoughts and do our best everyday to achieve our goals and bring love to the lives of others! Thanks for sharing your inspiring message.

An uplifting poem, Brenda, that if we live in faith and positivity we can overcome any obstacle. We should never let negative words drag us down or give up. The mind itself is a powerful tool in overcoming illness as well.

A thought provoking poem indeed! Living each day contented and happy. Believing there is a higher power to go to when trouble strikes is the best blessing we can have. We must have faith to believe and I believe it is a gift from God / Jesus. Beautiful poetry Brenda.
