Poem: Time for a New Season

I am a writer. My passion is poetry. I feel words connect people together and help us to understand the feelings we share.

Poem Summary

Time for a new season is a poem about us taking one last drive in his silver 2012 Dodge Challenger. Deciding to let a new owner find a season of joy from behind the wheel is a tough choice, but there's no since in letting it hide away in the garage.

Time For A New Season

Taking one last drive,

pausing to remember

the spur of the moment vacations,

cruising down the highway

to unknown destinations,

in his silver dodge challenger

before transferring the title.

Nonsense for it’s wheels

to sit idle

securely locked behind a garage door,

when it can bring a season of joy,

but as the time nears

bittersweet memories flood their hearts.

Alyssa,

Thank you.

Glad to hear you & your husband own one.

It is quite a pleasant ride. Keep enjoying your for me.

Have a great day.

Alyssa from Ohio on March 04, 2021:

What a beautiful car and poem, Brenda! This one is close to my heart as my husband and I own a challenger.

BRENDA ARLEDGE (author) from Washington Court House on March 04, 2021:

John,

Thank you.

Well, weighing the options of how often we would get to enjoy taking it for a drive versus the money for selling it...he decided to go for the money.

It will help out with medical bills, and maybe a vacation.

Sorry to hear you had a car stolen.

Thanks for reading.

Have a great day.

John Hansen from Queensland Australia on March 04, 2021:

What a great looking car. Pity it needs to be sold, but it sounds like you both have good memories from it and it is wasted just sitting in the garage. The only time I wrote a poem about one of my cars was when it was stolen and written off. Good job, Brenda.

It is a great ride

BRENDA ARLEDGE (author) from Washington Court House on March 04, 2021:

Shauna,

Congratulations!

I know you will enjoy it.

Probably was a mid life crisis decision, but that's fine.

They are great looking cars.

There will never be a time you drive it that you don't get compliments.

Other people always want to look at them.

It probably will take you awhile to learn all those bells & whistles...it's pretty neat.

Take time to get your car out for a drive or take a mini vacation.

Enjoy!

Chitrangada,

Thank you.

This was my boyfriend's car that we drove on every vacation.

It just seemed right to jot down a few lines.

Take care.

Pamela,

Thank you.

It just seemed fitting as we were waiting in the bank to sign paperwork.

Bittersweet.

We do get attached to things.

I'm not sure what we will drive when we take another vacation.

We are hoping to plan one after our next Covid-19 shot.

Take care.

Amanda,

Thank you so much!

She is a beauty. I'm gonna miss her.

Take care.

Ann,

His son has a Mustang. They are very nice.

Neither of these cars drive well in the Ohio Winter weather though.

We will miss her...we took her on all of our vacations.

Since his illness, he decided there was no sense of it sitting in the garage.

He wanted someone else to enjoy it.

Take care & have a great day.

Brenda, this past August I traded in my 15-year old PT Cruiser for a 2019 Dodge Challenger. I call it my "delayed mid-life crisis" purchase. I love my muscle car. It has so many bells and whistles it'll probably take me 15 years to learn all of them.

They are good looking cars, aren't they?

Chitrangada Sharan from New Delhi, India on March 04, 2021:

So nice of you to write a poem about your car. I was reminded of my first one.

Beautifully expressed poem. Thank you for sharing.

Pamela Oglesby from Sunny Florida on March 04, 2021:

This is a nice looking care, and writing a poem about the transition is very clever. We do get attached to our cars, computers. a piece of furniture, etc. Thanks for sharing, Brenda.

Amanda Grace from Colorado Springs, CO on March 04, 2021:

Beautiful car and poem!

BRENDA ARLEDGE (author) from Washington Court House on March 04, 2021:

Peggy,

Thank you.

That is so true.

The little gal that purchased this beauty seems very happy.

I'm certain she will take care of her & have lots of years to make those special memories.

Ann Carr from SW England on March 04, 2021:

Strange, isn't it, how we get attached to certain cars? I've had a few favourites.

This car is wonderful; I'd never get rid of one of these! The best muscle car is the Mustang, in my book (the only Ford that has any worth for me), but this and the Camaro come a close second. The V8 is such a great sound!

You sum up the emotions here, Brenda.

You will always have your memories! Someone else will enjoy your car and create their owm memories with it.

BRENDA ARLEDGE (author) from Washington Court House on March 04, 2021:

Bill,

Thanks.

This one will be missed too, but we have all those memories.

Bill Holland from Olympia, WA on March 04, 2021:

Love those muscle cars. I had a Camaro back in 1969....loved the raw power of that engine!!!

Thanks for the memories!
