Poem: The Devil Loses

I am a writer. My passion is poetry. I feel words connect people together and help us to understand the feelings we share.

"Between The Devil And Me" by Alan Jackson

poem-the-devil-loses

In her mind’s eye
he is her soulmate,
an angel picked just for her,
the one she has dreamed about
since she was a little girl.

Little does she know
he was sent by the fallen angel
to break her heart,
to make her bitter,
to lead her life astray.

She pours out her undying love
giving him all his worldly desires
only to endure heartache and pain.

She sits alone in silence
her soul tormented by this devil’s fire
wanting to touch those burning flames,
when he comes to her
like a thief in the night
fulfilling her every dream.

Then the angels of heaven smile
casting the fallen angel
back into his fiery pit,
blessing the two soulmates
with a love that is everlasting.

Manatita44,

I got to keep you on your toes...as to speak.

Glad the ending was a surprise.

Thanks for reading.

Your poems always take me on a journey Brenda and once again I am impressed. Loved it.

Interesting end or last stanza. Not the fire I expected, not a 'heart-break hotel'. Lol.
