Article Summary

Poem: Sunshine Makes Her Day Beautiful / Discussion & Poem for "Word Prompts Help Creativity / Week 15" is my response to the word prompt sunshine.

It's hard to believe sunshine is limited for others while it makes me feel alive.

I've written a short discussion and two poems.

The first poem is how sunshine makes her feel like it's a great day to be alive.

The second one is about the sadness she will feel the day her sunshine fades away, the moment she loses him.

Only 80 days of Sunshine

I don’t know about anyone else, but sunshine puts me in a good mood.

I love feeling the warmth of its rays beaming down on my shoulders.

I feel sad that where Bill Holland lives, he only experiences this great phenomenon about 80 days out of a year.

Here in Ohio, we even get sunshine in the winter months. It actually makes the snow sparkle like magic.

It was hard for me to believe that Washington doesn’t have much sunshine. So, I did what I do best.

I searched for facts and came across a few interesting ones.

It seems Bill was telling me the truth. The cloud cover is seen for miles. Almost like there is no escape.

Until I found a little town called Sequim.

There is very little snowfall, not much rain, low humidity, temperatures in the 70’s and sunshine.

Well, at least 132 days of seeing that bright star in the sky.

Hey Bill, this place sounds like paradise with a few extra days of sunshine for you.

I’m not sure how far away you live from Sequim, but it might be worth the drive.

Just bundle up if it’s Winter. They say it gets quite cold.

But then again, I’m sure you get the same type of weather.

A Great Day To Be Alive

A glimmer of light

shines like a diamond dancing on the wall,

filling her soul with hope.

Her face lights up

grinning from ear to ear,

to start out her day.

She jumps in gear

with her morning ritual,

as droplets of water

energize her skin.

Then she basks on the deck

feeling a cool breeze,

blow the warmth of the sun across her face.

She hears the flowerbed call her name,

as she tries to beat the midday heat

planting little beauties

for her eyes to adore.

Sunshine bears down making her shoulders red,

creating wet pockets on her shirt,

but her hands keep digging,

grabbing a bottle of water,

for it’s a great day to be alive.

Flowers are thise little colorful beacons of the sun from which we get sunshine when dark, somber skies blanket our thoughts.

The Moment Her Sunshine Fades Away

His touch is a familiar feeling

like she’s known him a million years,

the fear of losing him

leaves her in an ocean of tears.

Her heart shatters,

just thinking about the moment

he is called home,

the day her sky turns grey.

She hopes to remember

the glimmer of his sweet smile

to brighten up her days,

for she cannot bear to see

her sunshine fade away.

Thank you.

I just finished reading your work & it is awesome.

I will post a link on the article as soon as I can.

Right now Hubpages edit is down due to maintenance.

I had never thought of places not having sunshine either.

Even when it rains...we always get sunshine when it ends.

Take care.

Rodric Anthony Johnson from Surprise, Arizona on May 28, 2021:

I never considered that the sun does not shine in some places for many days since I live in the Valley of the Sun metropolitan area where the sun ALWAYS shines unless there is a haboob brewing.

Here is my contribution to the word-prompt "sunshine."

Shauna L Bowling from Central Florida on May 26, 2021:

Sunshine is energizing. Often, I lift my face to the sun, close my eyes and let its warmth enter by body, instantly revitazing my soul. I can't imagine living in an area with a constant shroud of clouds. When it's gray here in Florida, I feel unmotivated, like I just want to put on my pj's and watch TV all day.

Beautiful read, Brenda. Very enjoyable.

Dora Weithers on May 26, 2021:

Each piece offers hope of some benefit from the sunshine, even the last poem which mentions fear. So appropriate for the positivity which sunshine represents.

Miebakagh Fiberesima from Port Harcourt, Rivers State, NIGERIA. on May 26, 2021:

Hey Brenda I wondering to write an odd and unique article with a modify title emboding sunshine. I opine it would be an interesting and great read. You're always welcome. Stay safe likewise.

BRENDA ARLEDGE (author) from Washington Court House on May 26, 2021:

Miebakagh

Thanks for reading.

I've heard about the the Sun God.

I do think we can manage witjout the sun for an hour or two, but it is needed to sustain life.

Our plants depend on it.

Take care & have a great day.

Ya know me...I gotta toss a sad poem in there once in awhile.

I do believe Sunshine is the best Medicine....at least for me.

I hope you are having a wonderful day today.

Beautiful poems, Brenda. I liked both of them but the second one "The Moment Her Sunshine Fades Away" I liked most

And these lines:

the fear of losing him

leaves her in an ocean of tears.

They are so emotional. I am touched.

Keep Shining my dear friend

Thanks for sharing.

Hy Breeda, what can mankimd do even without sunshine for an hour or two? Can the earth vegetate with no sunshine? Do many realise or are thankful our skin, hair, bones owns much to just 30 minutes of preciou sunshine? No wonder the ancient venerated or worship the Sun as the God of energy! Thanks for a nice read.

Rosina S Khan on May 26, 2021:

Hey, Brenda, I loved all the three poetry pieces. But the last one was a sad one. I agree with the quote, "Sunshine is the best medicine." Hopefully, you will take in all the sunshine one day at a time and thrive to your fullest. Thanks for the amazing share.

Amara from Pakistan on May 26, 2021:

I am not a fan of sunshine, as where I live, its mostly very hot here in summers, and temp right now is 39°C.

But your poems are fantastic Brenda, I enjoyed reading them.
