Poem: Strong Will

I am a writer. My passion is poetry. I feel words connect people together and help us to understand the feelings we share.

Poem Summary

Strong Will is a poem about how others take her words lightly. They think she will easily cave and think their way, taking for granted her desires. They wait for her to cave, but she stands firm like a tenacious weed.

"She Won't Change Her Mind - by Keith Hopwood and Phil Bush"

Strong Will

Her words lost

stifled in midair,

making light of her desires

taking for granted

her free will.

Doubting her stance,

going against her every breath

waiting for her to cave,

believing she lacks the courage

to hold her ground.

Seemingly, faint at heart

but strong to the core,

like a tenacious weed

her spoken communication stands firm.

Manatita44,

Thank you so much!

Please send me a link in messages if you cannot find my article to post it.

I'm sorry I missed your beautiful words before for Spring.

manatita44 from london on March 16, 2021:

Holding firm, like a 'tenacious weed.' A courageous piece!

Vanita,

Thank you.

I so love your description in your comment.

It is definitely a "rat race" in this world today.

People who have a soft compassionate heart often get labeled as weak, but usually it is the soft spoken ones who are the strongest.

Thanks again & have a wonderful day.

Vanita Thakkar on March 16, 2021:

Poem of strength and courage. Loved it. Very human as well, as I think everyone who struggles with external dominations and suppressions will be able to relate to it. We live in a world where softness is mistaken for weakness, confidence and assertiveness are mistaken for ego .... in rat races driven by the "by hook or crook" mentalities.

Rosina,

Thank you.

It's important to have values.

I'm glad you like this one.

Have a great night.

Rosina S Khan on March 15, 2021:

Yes, Brenda, it's good not to be a people pleaser and rather stay firm and strong with your own values. I enjoyed reading the poem. Thank you for sharing.

Peggy,

Thank you.

That's the one thing I could think of that is so stubborn.

A weed just never gives up...it keeps on growing.

Have a great night.

Peggy Woods from Houston, Texas on March 15, 2021:

I like your analogy of being firm, like "a tenacious weed." Good one!

It is so nice to hear from you.

I'm so glad you like my poem and Mr Gene Watson too.

Mel,

Thank you so much!

I usually only write free verse.

It has a soul of it's own.

I'm delighted you like it.

Have a great day.

Ruby Jean Richert from Southern Illinois on March 15, 2021:

Great poem Brenda! I like Gene Watson too.

Mel Carriere from Snowbound and down in Northern Colorado on March 15, 2021:

I love your original use of meter. Too many greeting card poems in this venue, so your constrained free verse style is refreshing. It bounces but it doesn't need rhyme to sing. It also conveys a solid image of this tenacious as a weed person. Great work.

BRENDA ARLEDGE (author) from Washington Court House on March 15, 2021:

Ann,

Thank you.

That is good advice..to steer clear of them.

It can be frustrating as heck...dealing with people like this!

If course...they say I'm the stubborn one.

Take care.

Ms Dora,

As usual you make me smile.

I can just picture you with your arms crossed saying this outloud.

Thanks a bunch.

Take care.

Misbah,

Thank you.

Self confidence is so very important.

I hate it when others think you will just change your mind.

We all have our own values.

Have a great day.

Misbah Sheikh from The World of Poets on March 15, 2021:

It really hurts when no one values you

We must never underestimate ourselves

Self-confidence is very important

If we believe in ourselves, then the world will believe us

There are always obstacles along the way,

but we have to make our own way

Hard work never goes in vain

Blessings

Strong will, standing firm. My kinda woman. We need many more like her.

Ann Carr from SW England on March 15, 2021:

Strong will is so important. Others often don't like that, as they like to dominate in many situations. I steer clear of those people as experience has taught me they are bad news!

Great poem!

Ann
