Poem: Sowing Love

I am a writer. My passion is poetry. I feel words connect people together and help us to understand the feelings we share.

Poem Summary

Sowing love is a poem about a man who patiently waits for a woman to love him. She has been betrayed by love in the past, closing the door to hope. He continues to show her affection, hoping one day her love will bloom.

"Sowing Love by Paul Overstreet"

Sowing Love

Sowing seeds of love

in each corner of her heart,

patiently waiting for the drought to end.

Quenching her thirst with tiny drizzles,

hoping for a soaking rain

to water her roots.

His labor of intense affection,

taps against the window pane of her broken heart

nurturing it to sprout.

Patience is not the ability to wait, but the ability to keep a good attitude while waiting.

Ann,

Thank you.

I'm delighted you like this one.

Seeds do take time to grow. It is sometimes hard to have patience, but it is worth it in the end.

Have a wonderful day.

Ann Carr from SW England on April 07, 2021:

Good sentiments in this. We all need patience but when someone shows us patience in love, it's a sure sign of sincerity. A seed takes a while to grow, after all!

Lovely analogy.

A very beautiful write and I really love that potted plant and sign of Love. Peace.

Pamela Oglesby from Sunny Florida on April 07, 2021:

This is a sweet, lovely poem, Brenda. Sometimes love takes time especially when one has been hurt. Patience is the key for the other person, and you spelled that out in a unique way.

Miebakagh Fiberesima from Port Harcourt, Rivers State, NIGERIA. on April 07, 2021:

Brenda, yes, love has to be sow. It's not something to be harvest at a momentt notice. Every one can relate to the fact your other half is gotten at the cost of sowing, patience, and reaping. Yours is the shortest poem I've ever read online. Much thanks for sharing.

BRENDA ARLEDGE (author) from Washington Court House on April 07, 2021:

Fran,

Thank you so much!

I had forgotten about that one.

All good things come to those who wait.

BUT SO TRUE.

Have a great day.

Having patience...it can bring forth the desired result.

Glad you like it.

Have a great day.

fran rooks from Toledo, Ohio on April 07, 2021:

Brenda loved the poem. I immediately thought of --all good things come to those who wait. Thanks for sharing.

Misbah Sheikh from The World of Rebels. on April 06, 2021:

This is a touchy poem, Benda. in the end you mentioned a quote, "Patience is not the ability to wait, but the ability to keep a good attitude while waiting" I agree we call it "Sabr" in Urdu, Persian, and Arabic. In Urdu we use to say a phrase regarding patience, in English we can say it like: the fruits of patience are sweet.

Meaning: having patience will get you the desired result.

Thanks for sharing the beautiful piece of poetry

Blessings Always

BRENDA ARLEDGE (author) from Washington Court House on April 06, 2021:

Ravi,

Thank you.

I appreciate your comment.

It seems you really do understand the virtue of having this patience.

Have a great day.

Ravi Rajan from Mumbai on April 06, 2021:

Thanks for sharing this emotional poem. I know such a woman who was betrayed earlier and it took her husband 4 long years to get her love and affection. The roots of betrayal go deep but can be vanquished by the powerful sprouts of love. Thanks for driving this eternal message.
