Poem: Sounds in the Night

I am a writer. My passion is poetry. I feel words connect people together and help us to understand the feelings we share.

"Neighbor Noise" (Stand Up Comedy) by Mike Bridenstine

The whispers of the night
used to be sounds of nature,
like a cricket singing
driving the kitty to pounce,
or the north wind howling
forcing on the furnace.

But here it’s constant traffic,
pulling in and out
of this apartment site
during the wee hours of the night,
hearing strange voices,
banging of doors opening and closing,
interrupting my peaceful slumber.

I suppose sleeping in stages
will have to do for now,
since I’m new to the neighborhood
no waves should I create,
but keeping a watchful eye
should the need arise for me to speak.

Thank you, John.

I think at this point the neighbors should have a little respect for others...normal noises I will get used too.

Glad you liked it.

John Hansen from Gondwana Land on October 13, 2019:

I can relate to this Brenda. I lived on a rural acreage for ten years with no close neighbours, before moving into town. The noises sure take some getting used to. Good poem.

Beautiful. You have a way with words.

Awe...the country side is music to my ears.

Thanks for reading. I appreciate it.

I used to live in the city Brenda and it does take time to adjust. I have returned to the countryside and now wake up to the sound of birds instead of people. I enjoyed your poem and video.
