Poem: Smoldering Love

I am a writer. My passion is poetry. I feel words connect people together and help us to understand the feelings we share.

Poem Summary

Smoldering love is a poem which was written for a contest.

It tells the story of a woman who is crushed when she sees the spark in her man's eyes fade. She can hear his unspoken words fly across the room as he halts his affection hoping she will leave.

"Achy Breaky Heart by Billy Ray Cyrus"

Originally for Contest

This poem was originally written for a contest, but it didn't win.

I decided to post it here for everyone to read.

Comments are welcome.

I hope you enjoy it.

Smoldering Love

When the glint in his eye is missing

and the sound of his voice is gruff

with a doleful look plastered on his face,

it crushes her heart.

It is in this moment

she hears his unspoken words

fly across the room,

smashing her heart into tiny gooey bits,

with the coldness in his eyes

splattering her like a fly on the wall

sending shivers down her spine.

His feelings of love

smoldering in rage,

burner hotter and brighter

deep inside his veins,

halting his affection,

hoping she withdraws

her hand from the ring.

The smarter you get the more you realize anger is not worth it.

Time to remove on, I say. Nothing or no one is indispensable. Besides, so many get hurt by staying too long. Peace.

Farah N Huq from Dhaka, Bangladesh on April 12, 2021:

It is sad how love can have its transitions over time, specially when the spark begins to fade and more so, if it fades only from one side. Wish the "happily ever afters" in the fairy talea were real. A beautiful poem.

Dora Weithers from The Caribbean on April 12, 2021:

The feelings come through, and I wish that his halted affections could have made it through to her crushed heart. You do make us feel.

Pamela Oglesby from Sunny Florida on April 12, 2021:

There is so much emotion packed into this poem, Brenda. I think this is a powerful poem that spells out her feelings and hurt. I think it is very good.

Most people will relate to the feeling expressed.

I think this poem is well-written.

Take care.
