Poem: Silence: A Gift or Devastation (Week 18 ~ prompt)

I am a writer. My passion is poetry. I feel words connect people together and help us to understand the feelings we share.

Article Summary

Silence: A Gift or Devastation is an article which includes three poems.

This is in response to "Word Prompts Help Creativity / Week 18" by Brenda Arledge.

Silence can bring us many gifts, but also can be a source of pain.

I know I'm a little late to the party, but I hope you enjoy what my muse created.

"Sanna Nielson - Undo"

Poem Summary

"Devasted" is a poem explaining that silence can hurt.

It can serve many purposes, but if it is given with no spoken words, it can leave one devastated.

poem-silence-a-gift-or-devastation

Devasted

Silence lingers,

no words spoken,

our inner core disintegrates

into tiny pieces.

Standing alone

lost without direction,

shattering our core beliefs.

Saying nothing sometimes says the most.

— Emily Dickinson

Poem Summary

"Embrace It" is an acoustic poem.

It tells how the soothing sound of silence can calm every fiber of your being.

Relax and enjoy those precious moments of quiet.

Embrace It

Suppress the noise,

Interchange it with quiet solitude

Leave the chaos behind,

Enjoy the golden silence

Naturally occurring,

Calm your nerves,

Embrace the day.

The soul usually knows what to do to heal itself.

The challenge is to silence the mind.

Poem Summary

If you are facing problems or your day is hectic, sit in quiet solitude.

Listen with your inner child.

You can hear faint words echoing in your thoughts.

It will guide you to your next step.

The Midst of Silence brings Answers

When you face chaotic problems,

sit in idle quietness

using your inner child.

The echo of faint words

etch into your mind,

carving out each tiny detail.

Like magic in thin air,

answers appear,

guiding your next step.

Listen to the silence.

It has so much to say.

— Rumi

That is the best time to listen to silence.

It sounds like you have that perfect opportunity.

Have a great day.

Denise McGill from Fresno CA on July 04, 2021:

I like to get up before anyone and just sit in the silence, no music, no interruptions. Just me and the blessed silence to clear my head and order my thoughts for the day. It's a great way to start the day.

Blessings,

Denise

Pamela Oglesby from Sunny Florida on June 28, 2021:

The poems are beautiful, Brenda. They reflect the various aspects of silence and how sometimes silence provides answers.

Life can be so chaotic and when everyone is talking, giving you advice, etc., it can be hard to get your own thoughts and feelings sorted out. Those are the times silence is really needed.

As you pointed out silence can also be painful.

I like your acrostic poem also. I really enjoyed reading everything in this article, including the clever quotes. God bless you, Brenda.

John Hansen from Gondwana Land on June 28, 2021:

There are so many different levels of "silence" Brenda, and I like the ones you touched on in these poems. Great job. I also like the quotes you included.

Beautiful thoughts. Silence is very productive during my prayer time. One of my favorite quotes is: "When every other voice is hushed, and in quietness we wait before Him, the silence of the soul makes make more distinct, the voice of God."
