Poem: Secret Feelings

I am a writer. My passion is poetry. I feel words connect people together and help us to understand the feelings we share.

Poem Summary

Secret feelings is about her hiding the familiar pain of heartbreak. She realizes he pretends to be someone he is not as he bans her from public view hoping to keep her secret. She rids the nice girl label fine tuning his heart to hers showing him the importance of putting someone first.

Secret Feelings

She walks in a daze,
hoping he doesn't realize
the torment she hides
beneath the familiar pain
of heartbreak.

She realizes he pretends
to be someone he is not,
hiding behind mere words
banning her from public view,
attempting to keep his feelings secret.

Yearning to be free
from this nice girl label
he pinned on her years ago,
she satisfies a secret craving,
fine tuning his heart to hers,
making him understand the importance
of putting someone first.

Ms. Dora,

Yes, tis very true.

Secrets really are unnecessary burdens for life is too short.

The heart is amazing though to keep up the hope.

Thanks for reading.

Dora Weithers from The Caribbean on February 28, 2020:

Amazing how secret feelings can control an individual and create unnecessary struggle. Still, the heart hopes.

While reading the title of your poem, I thought it's about a love of a woman towards a man that was keep secret from him.

What a true characterization of an unfaithful man. Great poem Brenda! Thanks for sharing!

Yes, sometimes the allure is stronger on the feminine side, to keeps the Heart from wandering, I suppose. We humans can be easily diverted.

Interesting well written poem Brenda. Shows how complicated feelings and situations can be

Kyler,

Awe...I can see your confusion.

None of the above.

He wants to keep her secret so he has options if he wants too...like having other women desire him without them being aware he has a lady at home.

So glad you thought it was beautiful though.

Have a great day!

A very beautiful poem, Brenda, though I think I am struggling to understand the relationship between the two. Why is she a secret? A mistress, he is over-controlling, he is ashamed, she is ashamed of her own sexuality?

I need to know more.

Mark Tulin from Ventura, California on February 26, 2020:

I enjoyed the truth and vulnerability in this poem. Very effective.

Secret feelings hidden away. You captured the agony perfectly.

Lorna Lamon on February 26, 2020:

A thought provoking poem Brenda - there is a sense of controlling behaviour and fear within these lines. Once again you have captured the moment really well. Great writing.

John Hansen from Queensland Australia on February 26, 2020:

Good job, Brenda. Those secret feelings can be complicated.
