Poem: Keep the Fire Burning

I am a writer. My passion is poetry. I feel words connect people together and help us to understand the feelings we share.

"Keep The Fire Burning" by REO Speedwagon

"Keep the Fire Burning"

He lets the embers cool,
believing there is no need
to keep the flames burning hot,
thinking he can ignite a spark
whenever he desires.

Confused by him
taking her love for granted,
assuming she is satisfied
with a love half-lit,
her passion fades away.

Lost in his illusion,
finding her no longer interested
with her body cold like a dead fish,
he changes his tune
pulling out all the stakes,
like the good old days.

Keeping the fire burning hot,
no longer letting her passion fade,
tasting her sweet lips,
feeling her excitement
touching each particle of his body,
wanting her more each day.

It takes a special person to keep those fires lit, to not let it fall by the wayside as if it were a decorative picture on the wall of life you pass by each day without even a glance. We should all take the time to nurse the fires of love and passion!

A wonderful piece, Brenda!
