Poem: Restless Sleep

I am a writer. My passion is poetry. I feel words connect people together and help us to understand the feelings we share.

Poem Summary

Restless sleep is a poem about not being able to sleep. His thoughts race, as he tosses and turns. He turns on the light thinking he can chat witht someone on his cell phone but no one else is awake. He turns down the heat, grabs a soft pillow and tosses a blanket off then waits for Mr. Sandman.

"Mr. Sandman" by SYML

In the stillness of night
his thoughts race
keeping him wide awake,
his body tired, looking for sleep,
tossing and turning to no avail.

Hours of torment with no sheep to count
his restless soul resigns
turning on the light,
grabbing his mobile phone to chat
but no one else awake.

He turns the heat down two degrees
takes a blanket off the bed,
grabbing a softer pillow
he turns down the light,
hoping for the sandman.

Yes lorna,

I think we all have had those nights where we just cannot sleep.

Thanks for reading.

I can certainly relate to this feeling. I loved the last line.
