Article Summary
Poem: Response to "Word Prompts Help Creativity~Week 22 (shadow): "Shadow Friend"; "His Shadow"; "Only the Shadow Knows" is my response to this word prompt.
I have included 3 poems that talk about friendship, God's shadow, & missing the shadow of a loved one.
I actually wrote 4 poems, but I am only including 3 of them here. The other one I like so well that I am going to submit it for publication.
My muse took awhile to be inspired for this one, but it finally got on board.
I hope you like them.
"Eraserheads ~ Shadow"
Shadow Friend
No matter where my footsteps lead,
my shadow follows me
like a long-lost puppy
searching for his owner.
I try to comfort her,
but she disappears
before my hand can touch her silhouette,
leaving me baffled
and alone.
I wish she’d stick around
and be my secret friend
but she vanishes each day when I get home,
For there is no light shining in.
Shadow owes its birth to light.
— John Gay
His Shadow
Somehow, I know
He walks with me
Avenging those who do me wrong
Determined to make them walk
On a straight and narrow path
Wishing they were worthy of my love.
Light is the shadow of God.
— Plato
Only The Shadow Knows
Sitting alone in the emptiness
remembering a life once-shared,
not wanting to harbor the darkness
left behind.
Emotionally stuck in the past
replaying their passionate dreams,
hoping to bring a glint of magic back.
She touches tears of joy and sadness
left behind from their secret world,
where only two shadows know their deep affection,
but now there is only one.
Missing your shadow
Beside of mine...
