Poem: Putting Up Guards

I am a writer. My passion is poetry. I feel words connect people together and help us to understand the feelings we share.

Poem Summary

Putting up guards is a poem about guarding one's heart. Love can hurt. In this one her heart is shattered & she puts up guards to protect herself from experiencing any more pain. Her dreams become nightmares of the past and she fears reaching out for her destiny. She failed to protect her heart.

"Putting Up Guards"

Shattered splinters
pierce the center of her heart,
trust disappearing from within.

She puts up guards
like a stone wall,
to stop herself from enjoying
the love she wants.

Afraid to touch
the blueprint of her destiny,
her dreams becoming nightmares
of the past.

Ms. Dora,

Your words make me smile.

I don't consider myself an expert at anything...least of all matters of the heart.

My emotions seem to run deep putting me in touch with alot of inner feelings.

Have a great day!

Thank you!

In your poetry, you appear to be an expert on matters of the heart. In addition, your phrases are packed with so much power. Another good read!

Bill,

Thank you.

Being on guard is kind of a way of life.

Glad to hear you let your wife inside though.

Have a great day.

Love that stanza....wonderful wording, Brenda!

I've been on guard my entire life. Only my wife is allowed to wander the corridors of my heart unimpeded. :)
