Poem: Nothing Is As It Seems

I am a writer. My passion is poetry. I feel words connect people together and help us to understand the feelings we share.

Poem Summary

Nothing is as it seems is a poem about a woman crying when she finds out she no longer has a home. Everything in her life is an illusion. The man she loves betrayed her, leaving her in turmoil. She is no longer a spring chicken ready to start over again. Someone has a sense of humor.

"Love, Marriage, and Lying" by Dana Gould

Nothing Is As It Seems

Her eyes fill with tears
when the house she shares
is no longer her home,
it's only a place to lay her head.

Her heart breaks
for the man she loves
is no longer hers,
he wants another.

Her world crumbles
when she understands that nothing
is as it seems,
it is an illusion.

Her love vanishes
when she knows it is useless
to waste her time,
she isn't appreciated.

Her trust disappears
realizing the truth
behind his lies,
he betrayed her.

Her life is in turmoil
for she is no longer
a spring chicken,
someone has a sense of humor.

Nothing is like it seems, but everything is exactly like it is.
