Poem: Not Ready

I am a writer. My passion is poetry. I feel words connect people together and help us to understand the feelings we share.

Summary of Poem

Not ready is about her heart being broken but she hides behind the bittersweet memories not ready to move forward. She's not sure her head is up to the task so she suffers in silence. No one can tell her agonizing pain. She hides it well.

"I'll Never Love Again" (from a Stsr is Born)(official music video)

Not Ready

Wipe the slate clean
start over from scratch,
she’s not sure her head
is up to the task.

Hiding behind
bittersweet memories,
suffering in silence
agony lingering.

Smiles abound
no one can tell
her agonizing misery,
she hides it so well.

Kyler,

The words you use to describe the feelings of this poem are amazing.

I am happy it has touched your soul & you believe it could reach out to many hearts.

Thank you so much!

Kyler J Falk from Corona, CA on September 13, 2020:

There are so many silent sufferers in this world, and so few who truly wish to share that burden in earnest. I could feel the suffering here, and the concise delivery of it was straight to my soul. This is a poem that could shake the foundations of even the most callous of hearts!

Though painful, this is quite the amazing poem, Brenda!

It's hard to come back from intense heartache. It is all sweet melancholy now, but at the time, the pain was crippling. :) Lovely write.

Clive Williams from Jamaica on July 01, 2020:

cool write

Liz Westwood from UK on July 01, 2020:

You have skilfully used the words to convey the feelings very well in a compact format. You have achieved in a few words what other poets might take many more words to depict.

Lorna Lamon on July 01, 2020:

A great title which sums up exactly how she feels. Your poem perfectly describes these feelings in few words, which is difficult to do. I have images of pain and hurt behind a smiling mask. Loved it Brenda.
