Poem: No Longer Perfect

I am a writer. My passion is poetry. I feel words connect people together and help us to understand the feelings we share.

"Just When I Needed You Most" by Randy VanWarmer

"No Longer Perfect"

He professes his love,
promising to stand by her side
battling this storm,
taking her hand in his,
speaking tender words to her heart.

His words untrustworthy,
crying tears for himself,
feeling trapped,
waiting for her recovery
so he can safely depart.

No longer perfect
with her unsteady gait,
he cannot wait to trade her in
before she totally breaks.

Lorna,

Yes, anything else is not good enough.

I do not know how a person claims to have even been in love if he does not stand beside you when you need it most.

Thanks for reading.

Lorna Lamon on August 23, 2019:

Such a sense of sadness in this poem and brought home to me that when the person we love stands beside us in our time of real need this is true love, anything less is not good enough.
