Poem: No Day for a Picnic

I am a writer. My passion is poetry. I feel words connect people together and help us to understand the feelings we share.

"No Day For A Picnic"

While taking a drive
the glare from the sun
deceives her mind,
convincing her the day is warm.

Grabbing takeout from the drive-thru,
heading for the park
enjoying a mini picnic
in it’s glow.

But the sun lied,
she is shivering with each bite
pulling the hood of her coat up
feeling like it is forty degrees.

She finishes her quest
quickly consuming her meal,
rushing back to the car
turning on the heat.

Diana,

Yes, me too. I just love being outdoors.

We had high 70's again over the weekend only to be in the 30's at nighttime again.

Oh how I want to plant more flowers and a garden.

Diana Carol Abrahamson from Somerset West on May 04, 2020:

I know how you feel. I am a real summer baby and love the outdoor activities. Keep on keeping on, Brenda.

Mark,

It's actually Springtime here.

The temperature just cannot make up it's mind.

We even had frost last week.

But today it's in the 70's with sunshine til late tonight...then thunderstorms.

Wild and wacky weather to go with these unprecedent times we are living within today.

I'm gonna go enjoy a cookout for two today...this sunshine will make me feel better.

Have a great day.

Lorna,

Thank you.

I am just tired..seems like I just accomplish a little bit and have no energy.

It's been a struggle for well over a week, but I am pushing myself to get something done each day.

In the 70's today so I think it's outside for some sunshine.

Thanks for reading and have a great day.

John,

It's actually Spring here. The temperature just cannot make up it's mind. We went from 40 to already 70 degrees today.

Social distancing still going on here, but they are letting some factories open up on Monday.

I just haven't been up to par...get tired easily.

Maybe it's just all this isolation and bad weather. Seems like if it isn't cold..it's raining.

Definitely getting out today to enjoy this weather. No matter how I feel..I will be out in the sunshine.

Take care.

In winter, the sun can be deceiving. I feels so wrong,

Lorna Lamon on May 02, 2020:

I wasn't aware you were ill Brenda and I hope you are feeling better. The sun can be deceiving especially when felt in the warmth of a car. Your poem created this scenario perfectly. Lovely.

John Hansen from Queensland Australia on May 01, 2020:

Hi Brenda, I can relate to this poem as the temperature today has plummeted .. Winter has arrived. Even though the day is beautiful and sunny I need a jacket. Restrictions have been eased here slightly allowing families to have picnics etc in the park, but still no socializing in groups. Sorry to hear you have been unwell.

BRENDA ARLEDGE (author) from Washington Court House on May 01, 2020:

Rosina,

Thank you so much! I really do appreciate your kindness.

I am getting there...hopefully by next week I will be back full force.

Glad it made you smile.

Have a great day!
