Emotion of Laughter (acrostic poem)

Lost in joy

Absorbed with happiness

Undeniably losing control of my emotions

Genuinely smiling from ear to ear

Happening without notice

Tailor-made for the moment

Easily affecting my body

Refreshing my soul.

Laughter Is The Best Medicine

Gloominess lurks within,

darkness surrounds her soul,

no peek of sunlight

in this depth of hell

that has her captive.

She tosses back a cold one

to bury her sorrows

as memories plague her thoughts,

when an unkept man, with baggy clothes

begins talking to her

like he’s never met a stranger.

He talks of life

like he’s been around a time or two,

spinning his words in a comical way

when he looks at her and says,

“Chin up Buttercup.

You’re boobs aren’t that important.”

Let him trip over his own two feet.”

Suddenly she cracks a smile

and laughter bursts out,

she sees a glimmer of light

as her soul gains a new perspective.

Laughter is the brush that sweeps away the cobwebs of your heart.

Kitty Laughs

I swear my kitty’s smiling

it looks like a grin

on her face,

I wonder if she’s happy

or if she’s just giggling at me.

As she’s making biscuits on the blanket,

I’m sure my googly eyes and baby talk

makes her wonder

if I stayed out in the sun too long,

since I’m acting a bit crazy.

But no matter what I do

she’s my best bud,

so, if she wants to laugh at me,

it’s fine,

cause her playful ways make me chuckle too.

I loved your poems on laughter! I agree with the sentiment that you express especially in the second poem. If we take ourselves, too seriously, it can be bad for our health and we can get stuck on the trivial. Your poem is a great reminder, Brenda, to relax, sit back, and see the humor in something! I loved the acrostic and the kitty poem was my favorite! I think cats do laugh at us many times. Just as we laugh at their antics, they laugh at ours. And I wholeheartedly agree with your quote. Every house needs a cat to become a home. Wonderful job with your prompt!

I thank you for your keen observations.

Simplicity often gets to the core, displays with little to say.

It is a spiritual moment, perhaps the stranger is divine.

One cannot be certain, but laughter is the best medicine.

I just watched a clip on Gallagher last night - an American Comedian, who has retired...but it made me laugh.

Take a listen.

Enjoy your day.

Laughter indeed is the best medicine, Brenda and you expressed it very well through your poems and quotes and videos.

Loved reading your response to your own prompt.

manatita44 from london on July 30, 2021:

Cute and childlike videos, and again, simplicity is also a significant virtue. Cats are heart-warming and your aphorisms are meaningful. Your poem, 'Laughter is the best medicine', is right up my street in a spiritual sense. I like this funny line: 'She tosses back a cold one.' Says a lot!

Your acrostic poem is right on cue! Charming! Great Job!

Chitrangada Sharan from New Delhi, India on July 30, 2021:
