Poem - My Poetry Is Too Personal
Poem - My Poetry Is Too Personal
I often find that
my poetry is too personal.
I have to replace I and me and my
with he and she and they,
when telling the stories
in the poetry,
often my subtle way
of trying not to reveal
that my poetry is too personal.
They are just words, right?
Sometimes a poem is
just a poem.
It is not necessarily a rant
and a vent
about my personal life
as somebody’s mother,
daughter, sister,
friend, or wife.
No.
At least, I would like you
to think so.
So I replace I and me and my
with he and she and they,
so that I do not cry
too much when I write
something that might
indeed be very personal
to I and me and my.
My poetry is too personal.
While there is nothing much to hide and
there is no big reveal,
my poetry is too personal.
And what I go through,
personally, sometimes
feels unreal.
I’m going ahead and letting you know
that my poetry is too personal.
So this poem here
Is just my little disclaimer
that the poems that
I write are not
written here
just to entertain yah.
My poetry is too personal.
Sometimes, these poems
discuss some real true
struggles indeed.
If some of these
poems are relatable,
I hope that they bring you comfort
when you read
them.
I know that writing
them was sometimes
cathartic for me
and that feeling
is good.
That feeling is a gem.
