Poem: My Faith in You Is Gone

I am a writer. My passion is poetry. I feel words connect people together and help us to understand the feelings we share.

Poem Summary

My faith in you is gone is a poem telling a sad story about a person who leaves the one he loves when she faces an illness. Only the one facing the illness has reason to be afraid. It's hard to understand the feelings of anyone claiming to love you, but leaving when you need them most.

My Faith In You Is Gone

It breaks her heart
to realize he is too scared
to stay on the course of love,
fearing the “what if's"
since her illness took a turn.

He understood from the beginning,
speaking the right words,
standing by her side,
only to run and hide
when she needs him the most.

She is strong,
she suffers in silence,
cringing inside as she feels the loss
of his loving arms around her,
wondering how she didn't see this coming.

It saddens her to lose the love they share
but she is no longer playing along,
he can tell himself
all the lies he wants,
but her faith in him is gone.

When the one you love leaves your side

At the moment you need them the most

Shannon,

Thank you for reading.

Yes, it can be so much more than heartbreak.

BRENDA ARLEDGE (author) from Washington Court House on August 31, 2019:

Thanks Linda.

I appreciate you reading.

It is tragic when someone you thought would be there decides they cannot handle it.

A pity, all the way around, for all.

Linda Crampton from British Columbia, Canada on August 30, 2019:

This is so sad. When someone is ill, they need love and friendship more than ever. To desert a partner or friend then is horrible.

Thank you, Lorna.

I am glad you understand its meaning and it touched you.

Lorna Lamon on August 30, 2019:

Such a sadness in this emotional poem Brenda. Even though it is not always easy to watch someone we love suffer, it is a measure of your own love for this person to hold their hand in their darkest hour. Your poem touched my heart.

Shannon Henry from Texas on August 29, 2019:

What a sad tale you tell here. Heartbreak seems to be an understatement.
