Poem: Mr. Tree

I am a writer. My passion is poetry. I feel words connect people together and help us to understand the feelings we share.

Poem Summary

"Mr. Tree" is a poem wondering how a tree feels as he goes about his day.

Does he get cold in the Winter or scared in a thunderstorm?

Does he enjoy having birds & squirrels live with him?

Oh, Mr. Tree, can you tell me?

Mr. Tree

Mr. Tree
can you tell me
what’s it’s like in the Winter
when snow covers
your majestic branches?

Do you tremble
shaking from the icy chill
feeling the coldness
shivering like I do?

In the Summer
are you afraid
when the thunder roars
and the sky turns dark?

Can you even take shelter
to protect your branches
from the torrent wind?

Is there a list
of the lovers who kiss
beneath your limbs
then etch your trunk with a knife?

How many children
fall from your limbs
busting a twig or two?

Do you enjoy the comfort
of those who nestle on your toes
to read a book beneath your shade?

Are the birds and the squirrels welcome
to call you their home
or are they a nuisance
you wish were gone?

Do you ever tire
of living this life
standing in plain sight
all alone?

I like trees because they seem more resigned to the way they have to live than other things do.
