Poem: Mother's Encouragement

I am a writer. My passion is poetry. I feel words connect people together and help us to understand the feelings we share.

Poem Summary

Mother's Encouragement is a poem about walking pass a bakery. The smell lingering in the air reminds her of baking cookies with her mother when she was a toddler. She couldn't reach the counter, flour was everywhere, but her mother didn't say one discouraging word. She showed a Mother's Love.

Mother's Encouragement

Strolling pass a bakery

on my morning walk,

a smell of chocolate lingers in the air,

reminding me of the first time

mother let me bake chocolate chip cookies.

A wee little tot

barely able to reach the counter,

leaving a pathway of flour on the floor

with my clothes dotted in white

and cookie dough in my hair,

tasting the batter on my fingers.

The kitchen filled with laughter

and brightness from her smile,

showing me love as only a mother can

with not one discouraging word.

When you look into your mother's eyes, you know that is the purest love you can find on earth

Mark,

Thank you.

It does amaze me that Mother's can have this kind of passion.

God must give them strength.

Take care and have a great day.

Mothers use much restraint in caring for children. Very envious. Beautiful poem.

Hi Brenda, what a lovely Mother's day tribute this poem is. It reminded me of my mother. She had so much patience, never had an unkind word ever in our learning phase. Her festival delicacies are the best, though she cant do much now due to her age. The videos of the toddler and twin toddlers baking cookies are so adorable. The quotes are beautiful too. Happy Mother's Day to you and your Mother.

Fran,

Thank you.

I've found there are many childless Mother's who touch hearts of others.

They have hearts of gold.

I'm sorry you didn't have that growing up, but I love your conviction now.

Happy Mother's Day!

Lorna,

Thank you.

I'm glad to hear you are keeping these memories alive by sharing them with your children.

They too...will cherish these moments.

Happy Mother's Day.

Brenda, I wasn't lucky enough to have a mother to learn from but I made a promise that if I ever had children, memories like those would be mine to share with my children and I pray they hold those memories to their hearts. Loved your poem and the art!

Yes Brenda only a mother make a child appear like a superhero. I describe so many times when my mother appreciated my horrible drawings to the 7th heaven and it was that encouragement that brings me to where I am now. Great write.

I thank the Lord everyday that he blessed me with her.

She still has that Mother's Love.

Peggy,

Thank you.

Unfortunately I didn't learn much about cooking from her...other than cookies & such.

She isn't the best cook even today, but I still love her.

But she worked during my teenage years.

Have a Happy Mother's Day.

Lovely sentiments expressed in your poem, and I can relate to it. I am reminded of my own childhood days—me learning cooking from my mother, and the childhood days of my children—they learning cooking from me.

Mother’s remain their children’s best cook in the World. It’s not what the mother’s cook, it’s the love and care, as the most precious ingredient in their recipes.

Thank you for sharing this lovely post. Happy Mother’s Day.

Audrey Hunt from Idyllwild Ca. on May 08, 2021:

This reminds me of baking with our kids. Only this week our grandchildren arrived with chocolate muffins that they had made with their mother. Our daughter often bakes with a 2 and 3 year old.
