Poem: Lost Thoughts

I am a writer. My passion is poetry. I feel words connect people together and help us to understand the feelings we share.

Summary of Poem

Lost thoughts is about her sensing the familiar feeling of heartbreak. When he holds her he is not his usual playful self. She can feel him pulling away. She hopes when he finally speaks she will hear only words of desire leaving that feeling behind her.

"Lost Thoughts"

She feels that familiar feeling of rejection
as he reaches out with tense arms to hold her, not at all like his usual playful self
like his thoughts are lost,
trapped somewhere between his heart and mind.

She feels a tug of war like he is pulling away,
the look of sadness buried deep in his eyes
with thoughts she can no longer read.

She hopes when he forms his words to speak
her ears will hear words of desire, instead of heartbreak,
leaving this feeling behind her.

Nothing hurts more than being disappointed by the person you thought would never hurt you.

Lora

Thank you so much for your kind words.

I am delighted to know my words convey the message of this feeling.

Have a great nite.

A poem that reflects so well on our intuition when someone that we really care about seems to be pushing us away from them. You certainly do justice to this feeling that can leave us so depleted. A very sensitive and well articulated poem.

Thank you.

I believe that is true.

The mind often refuses to accept what the heart feels.

No wonder this world gets so confusing.

VIDYA D SAGAR on July 24, 2021:

A great poem expressing the fear and sadness of a woman who fears dejection. Intuition is a strong feeling but the mind will not accept what the heart feels. Blessings.
