Poem: Letting the Walls Down

I am a writer. My passion is poetry. I feel words connect people together and help us to understand the feelings we share.

Poem Summary

Letting the walls down is a poem about a woman protecting her heart by building walls. Living her life in a dream world not wanting to feel despair. When he crosses her path she wants to take a chance. She lets the walls crumble putting her love on the line hoping he finds her this time.

Letting The Walls Down

She lives her life hidden
like a snail beneath a rock,
hoping to find shelter
in her own little world.

Refusing to partake
in a world of fake people
who bring heartache and pain,
leaving her lost in despair.

But when he crosses her path
speaking words of love,
he fascinates her soul
making her want to feel alive,
willing to take a chance.

She feels the walls
crumbling away from her heart,
no longer playing it safe
she puts herself on the line
hoping he finds her in time.

If you want to be seen, you have to put yourself out there - it's that simple.

Peggy,

I see so many people build walls trying to protect their heart from more hurt, but you are right...it is worth the risk to let love inside.

Enjoy your day today.

Peggy Woods from Houston, Texas on January 23, 2021:

One has to let their walls down to allow love to enter. The reward is worth the risk.

Crezyl,

I feel you are right!

When you are falling in love it seems impossible to protect one's heart.

Thank you for reading.

I am protecting my heart too. But when my heart is in love, I can't control it no matter how much I try. This is a lovely poem!
