Poem: Keeping Hope

I am a writer. My passion is poetry. I feel words connect people together and help us to understand the feelings we share.

Poem Summary

Keeping hope is a poem about how things don't always go as one plans. Life is not always on easy street, but one should keep his spirits high. Never give up on unlocking one's dreams.

Keeping Hope

She didn’t expect the twists and turns,

those little surprises that rear their ugly head,

as she awoke on this beautiful day.

But hey, that’s life,

why would it go

any other way?

She’s never been on easy street,

she’s crossed more detours than anyone deserves,

but her spirit doesn’t wane.

She anxiously looks forward to a new day

hoping to see a rainbow,

bringing her one step closer

to unlocking her dreams.

When the world says,

"Give Up",

Hope whispers,

"Try it one more time."

One Step Forward, Two Steps Back

We all have dreams. Moments in life where we strive to achieve our goals.

Our fellow Hubber, Dream On, has recently touched upon the struggles we face each day.

We try hard but they still seem so far out of reach. Sometimes it's like taking one step forward only to go two steps backwards.

Maybe it's God's way of telling us to enjoy the journey. There is no need to be in such a rush.

Detours often take us by surprise, don’t they? But nevertheless we are forced to take them so many times in life. Being on some track is better than being nowhere at all. Yes, hope is what gets us going. A lovely poem, dear Brenda.

Dipankar,

I read your last story about the ghost house.

It's amazing how some places can pull us inside...that curiosity.

They say curiosity kills the cat.

I remember places like that from my childhood...eerie, but you want to check it out.

Good story.

It was fun seeing John Lennon in that video. That takes me back in time! We all must cling to hope. It is what keeps us going, especially now with a raging worldwide pandemic. Praying for better days ahead.

Nithya,

Thank you.

I always look to the sky after a heavy rainfall and I can usually see a rainbow.

I guess the trick is finding one in life.

Take care and have a great Sunday.

BRENDA ARLEDGE (author) from Washington Court House on April 24, 2021:

John,

Thank you.

We do need to keep our hope.

There is another chance coming our way to get things right.

Hope gets us through to another day where we keep trying.

Glad you liked the songs.

Take care and have a great day.

John Hansen from Queensland Australia on April 24, 2021:

Wonderful poem and article (love the songs), Brenda. Yes, we need to keep the hope even when things don’t seem to be working out. I have read a couple of DreamOn’s recent posts, but not all. I should check his others. Blessings.

BRENDA ARLEDGE (author) from Washington Court House on April 24, 2021:

Misbah,

Thank you.

That is true.

It is hard to see at the moment, but later one realizes it is a blessing.

So we do keep trying and trusting in God each day, no matter how difficult the struggle might be.

Take care.

Misbah from The Planet Earth on April 24, 2021:

Brenda, this is a touchy poem, I don’t know anything about DreamOn but yes, I have seen the name on feed. Life is never easy for anyone. Every phase of life comes up with new struggles. We should keep on trying every time. Even if we are pushed 2 steps back, we will not be feeling a guilt ever in life that we didn’t give it a try. Sometimes the hardest times of life are blessings in real which we realize later in life

Blessings and Peace
